A stand mixer is one of the few kitchen appliances that genuinely earns its worktop space. It kneads bread dough while you prep dinner. It whips meringue to stiff peaks without you holding anything. It mixes cake batter in three minutes flat.

But the market is enormous. Prices range from £80 to over £700. Features vary wildly. Getting it wrong means a machine you resent every time you look at it.
